Seminar 2

The Metropolitan City: seeking competitive advantage through local actions to integrate immigrants and minority groups

Berlin, Germany, 16 July 2004

On Friday 16 July 2004, around 40 participants attended the second IDELE seminar in Berlin, Germany. The seminar was held in the Jewish Museum.

While the seminar contained similar elements to that of Lille, the geographical focus was on large metropolitan cities with dynamic labour markets, which gave a distinctly different focus to the agenda. For example, the policy interventions for local employment development are less focused on the demand side, and more to do with removing barriers on the supply side of the labour market. The seminar was also more influenced on two of the key horizontal themes for the IDELE programme—inclusion and equal opportunity.
