IDELE themes 2005

The second year of IDELE has considered four key themes in local employment development. These theme reflect a key tenet of IDELE—the importance of context in identifying and exchanging good practice principles and examples. The IDELE 2005 themes were:

  1. Maxmising employment potential: developing local approaches to lifelong learning;
  2. Positioning the local in multi-level governance systems: added value for employment and job creation;
  3. Alternatives to the grant culture: sustainable finance for local employment development;
  4. Local employment development in cross-border localities

Each theme formed the basis of research and the identification of good practice examples, leading to an international seminar and culminating in a thematic report. Theme specific pages on this Web site outline thematic background, relevant policy documents, good practice examples and key lessons and recommendations. Full thematic reports and summaries are available, each providing a summary of the lessons from experience, and conclusions for policy.
