Sustainable rural communities
Sustainable rural communities: local approaches to job generation and learning and skills development
This theme focused more specifically on the issues arising as the EU reforms its agricultural and rural development policies. It was not be restricted to the CSF Objectives but identified good practice in policy frameworks across the board. The case examples included those programmes that address the most pressing problems that rural areas face with a particular focus on enterprise and entrepreneurship and learning and skills. Of particular interest to this theme were examples of local agents working together over a long period of time with their government counterparts to produce a measurable difference in the development trajectory of rural areas.
A particular focus of the theme was the employment dimension - both in the creation of new enterprises and jobs and in the preparation of the workforce for the challenges of the modern world through learning and skills development programmes.
This seminar takes place in Santiago de Compostela on 1–2 June 2006.
