Appraising how Local Authorities use Culture and Sport to Meet CAA Outcome Targets

ECOTEC recently prepared a report for IDeA and the National Culture and Sport CAA AppraisalImprovement Board exploring the impact of culture and sport within the new CAA (Comprehensive Area Assessment).

The review identified local authorities where culture and sport are making strong contributions towards local outcomes, as well as highlighting areas where culture and sport could be used to generate further improvement.

The findings illustrated that culture and sport has played a role in over one third of Green Flags awarded through CAA for excellence, covering a diverse range of outcomes from cohesion through to town centre regeneration. However, with culture and sport prominent within only 33% of local authority CAA reports, and 18% of Red Flags awarded with some relevance to culture and sport, there is also room forimprovement.

IDeA stated that "ECOTEC has enabled people to grasp the issues we face in the CAA very clearly… this was a significant milestone in the project’s work ".
