Evaluation of the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal: Local Research Project

ECOTEC have played a key role in the final evaluation of the National Strategy for Neighbourhood Renewal (NSNR), on behalf of Communities and Local Government (CLG).  The NSNR Evaluation reports have recently been launched by CLG at the NDC Network Celebration: "Reflecting on the First 10 years, alongside the Evaluation of the New Deal for Communities programme.

ECOTEC led the Local Research Project (LRP), an ambitious, multi-region research project involving in-depth case studies of twenty-one deprived neighbourhoods, within twelve Local Authority areas. The LRP was based upon an evaluation framework designed to help assess the impact of the UK Government’s neighbourhood renewal policy between 2001 and 2008, and identify its strengths and weaknesses. The methodology involved:

  • Meta-reviews of existing evaluation reports and secondary datasets in each local area and neighbourhood;
  • A programme of primary research involving 700 in-depth qualitative interviews with local stakeholders and 35 focus groups with hard to reach communities;
  • Comparative analysis of case study findings to synthesize the answers to the key research questions for the study.

A copy of the report can be found at http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/communities/pdf/1490532.pdf.
